Where do I start to describe the love we have for pizzelle? We kids (brothers, sister, cousins) quickly realized that pizzelle would be at every family function, so we came to expect them. Whether it was the Christmas Eve party on my mother’s side of the family, Christmas Day on my father’s side of the family, a wedding, a shower, a graduation, retirement, even the occasional birthday. Typically, they were offered on a platter, dusted with powdered sugar. So simple, yet so delicious and satisfying!

One of my aunts used to make them with vanilla instead of anise. I wish she were here so I could ask how that got started. I may make a batch or two and see how you like them…

Ingredients: Flour, sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder, anise extract, anise seed.
